Anne Rice leaves Christianity

Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out ... in the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being a Christian, Amen.

- Anne Rice, author of Interview With the Vampire

Look man, I'm ever amazed when I read this garbage and hear people denounce Christianity in the name of all things liberal. And then have the gall to call themselves "free-thinking!" I call myself a Christian, although I don't go around like many people who shouldn't and tell the world that I'm christian and they should be to. I believe it's better to try to live by example. And christ himself said not to persecute homosexuals so it kinda sounds like all the people who are writing this shit are doing it because it's a part of an ever growing group of people who have never actually read or tried to understand the teachings of Christ, and they don't have the balls to actually think for themselves. Freethinkers? freethinkers means you think freely, not as a group! I pitty all of you who would stamp out the love of God from your un-humble lives. I ask you to read the New-testament and take a walk out into Nature and re-think your theories. Amen.

@Jeremiah, I like many of the ethical teachings of Yeshua but as fas as believing in the extraordinary supernatural claims it makes, I just can't honestly say that I believe in the supernatural.

AND these supernatural claims may seem innocent to you, but in the end behind them there are many other claims that do affect children (particularly if they grow up within the predatory church of Rome), they affect public health (AIDS in Africa and elsewhere), they affect human rights (not just gay rights: white South Africans are among the most racist and most religious people in the world - they STILL cite Leviticus to justify apartheid).

As 4 the Bible, it does order the genocide of gay people in Leviticus 20. People like you like to ignore these verses, but your bigot right-wing counterparts waste no time citing this one verse whenever they wanna fuck with gay people. The Bible also cites human sacrifice of a little girl by his fathat as a 'burned offering' to Jehovah in Judges 11, and David also sacrificed people on a mountaintop to solve a drought. I cannot understand how human beings can read the Bible IN ITS ENTIRETY and still celebrate its contents and find some type of moral vindication or values worth preserving.

This is not an innocent act by well-meaning people, it's a fascist ideology that is being shoved on the population. These are groups that hate human rights and human dignity and they're dangerous. Jerry Falwell even went as far as saying that conducting HIV research is inmoral, and that it's like the Jews trying to turn back on the Red Sea to save drowning Egyptians. He spent his whole life trying to convince the world that gay people should not exist: this is the consensus that prevails among these groups and so conservative Christianity has become a very real dangerous force in our society.

Until that changes, I see no reason for sane, wholesome people with a conscience to shut up. We need to become vocal. Leftist Christians are like the so called 'moderate muslims': they usually are, for the most part, silent bystanders, not like the historical Yeshua who would speak Truth to authority everywhere he went.

and by the way Anne Rice still believes in Christ. Notice that she believes but refuses to label herself a Christian. Her apostasy is a political act, an act of struggle and resistance. I think she feels that this is better for Christianity ...
