Parasites and power

Alan Fishman of Washington Mutual is headed for the doors with $19 million in his pocket.

- From this MSN Money article

As I read about the huge severance package that Alan Fishman received as CEO of a bank that failed, I realized that the most shocking part of the news is that he only worked there for three weeks. What tangible service could he have rendered during less than a month that would have made him eligible for nineteen million dollars?

In addition to the eight years of militarization, fiscal irresponsibility, and lack of economic regulations in order to facilitate the exploitation and profitability of the American people, the Republican party has had its hands dirty in many more ways. The Guardian, a newspaper from London, revealed recently that Sarah Palin based her campaign AGAINST the protection of the polar bear, an endangered species, on studies that were financed in part by oil companies. She used oil money to get six scientists to go against the overwhelming consensus in the scientific community with regards to global warming.

I realize that every country has corruption problems, but I've come to the conclusion that Republicans are not only greedy, but profoundly evil, inscrupulous and irresponsible. They have become a burden and a danger to the American people and to the entire planet.

Only after the last tree has been cut down
Only after the last river has been poisoned
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find you cannot eat money.

-- Cree prophecy

Another problem derived from our government's greed is our dependency on foreign oil from corrupt countries with a poor human rights record, which is immoral in the first place, and unintelligent.

Every sovereign country on the planet has established policies to protect their economic interests, but our government has assumed absolutely no ownership of the economic future of our country and has focused instead on producing profit for its constituency. A huge proportion of our foreign debt is to China, yet we do not have protocols in place to protect our economic interests like China does (and they have very strict ones): we are doing business with them ON THEIR TERMS and making them the wealthiest country on Earth while our economy fails. We are buying all of their goods and products. All of our wealth and all of the money that we are earning is ending up on the pockets of foreigners.

I'm reminded of how people voted for Bush (at least once, if you concede that he stole one election) because they did not want homosexuals to marry. Is this the bad karma of the American people? Is this what happens when people choose to recede backwards instead of embracing progress?

Whatever knowledge a fool acquires tends to be harmful; it destroys the fool's virtue, going to his head: he may wish for undeserved honor, precedence among mendicants, rulership among settled populations, and homage among other groups. - Lord Buddha, in Dhammapada 5:13-14

The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.
